Chinese classical literature has two typical rhetorical devices: Duiju 対句 and Diangu 典故, that is, classical allusion.The purpose of this article is to describe several personal views on classical allusion in Chinese literature.This article is divided into two parts.In the first section of Part 1, this paper considers aspects of commentaries of Chinese classical literary works in order to reveal the level of culture and education that the Chinese Literati (traditional intelligentsia)possessed. In the second section,this paper endeavors to elucidate the structure of classical allusion through the viewpoint of modern semiotics and intertextuality.
