The purpose of this study is to develop education programs using the service design method. This paper examines four service design workshops held during 2014 and 2015 from the point of view of education program development. A case study of workshops in the field of costume design, conducted for international joint research with the University of Lapland in Finland, clarifies the results and issues arising from education programs that have incorporated the service design method. Also, the significance of incorporating the service design method into design education was confirmed by investigation of one service design workshop on the subject of product development using local resources, and another workshop on the subject of social innovation, both of which were held for students of Yamaguchi Prefectural University in 2014.
