We have to admit the fact that TOEIC Test has been playing a very important role in the evaluation of the English teaching in universities and colleges in Japan, and it has also become a very important tool for the evaluation in the various workplaces not only to judge graduates’ English ability in their job application but also decide whether to send employees’ attachment
in branch offices abroad or not. A certain target score in TOEIC test has already become, a criterion of JABEE (Japan Accreditation for Engineering Education). In order to encourage our students to try to reach the target (400 in this college), we opened an English Seminar as one of elective subjects for the 4th and 5th year students in 2006. We would like to introduce how we have been trying to persuade our students to reach the goal in the seminar. We would also like to analyze the result of the actual TOEIC IP test and the practice for TOEIC IP test in the seminar.
