In this study, a survey was conducted to examine the mental health status of graduate students, such as psychological health and degree of fatigue, and the factors that affect mental health status. The subjects were 45 students and graduates of the Graduate School of Health and Welfare at Yamaguchi Prefectural University, at three stages of graduate training: “before writing,” “while writing,” and “after graduation.” The survey included questions about basic attributes, family, work, privacy, factors associated with the graduate school, and subjective health. Results showed that psychological health was highest among students at the “before writing” period, and there were significantly more students with low psychological health at the “while writing” period than at the “before writing” period. Furthermore, there was a significant association between low psychological health and long years of schooling. There were no significant differences in mental fatigue between students "before writing,” "while writing,” and “after graduation.”
