Toward the Future between Yamaguchi and Taiwan

This report is on the historical relationship between Yamaguchi and Taiwan discovered through research and collaboration with local organizations. An oil painting by Chen Cheng-Po, the famous artist in Taiwan was discovered at the Hofu City Library, Yamaguchi Prefecture in 2015. The team from Yamaguchi Prefectural University and persons from Hofu City visited Chia-Yi City, hometown of the artist. The staff and students of Yamaguchi Prefectural University started studying the historical relationship between Yamaguchi and Taiwan, and the people of Hofu City created regional friendships with Chia-Yi. This is an example of “co-creation” of the region’s globalization contributed to by the university.
