This paper aims to investigate relations between General English and Marine English from a view point of each register. We analyzed both a discourse on marine engine English and a discourse on vessel traffic communication and was able to point out characteristics concerning their vocabulary. The result shows not only some tendencies under certain circumstance of closed register, but also some commonality. The findings should be taken into consideration when both Englishes are taught. We would also like to propose some ideas to create materials for students.
