The purpose of this article is to analyze thoughts about the moral education association, Houtokukai, established by Hanada Nakanosuke in early times at Kagoshima through their magazine, “Houtoku”. The magazine contains many articles by persons who were related to the Kagoshima prefectural government and intellectuals. Hanada, the leader of Houtokukai, wrote articles mainly about young people that seemed to convey the sense of crisis about the turning point of Japan.
