Employability of International Students in Yamaguchi: Analysis of Firm Questionnaire

外国人留学生の雇用の可能性を調査するために，山口県の企業52社に対してアンケート調査を実施した。将来留学生を雇用することを検討している企業も含まれているものの，42社が留学生を雇用した経験がないことが明らかとなった。さらに，雇用経験の有無に関わらず，留学生の日本語の能力および日本の慣習への理解が低いことから，多くの企業で留学生の雇用に消極的であることも示された。留学生の雇用を促進させるためには，留学生がさらに日本語能力を強化し，日本の慣習に慣れる必要があるだけではなく，企業も他国の雇用制度を理解する必要があろう。

We conducted a questionnaire survey for 52 firms in Yamaguchi Prefecture in Japan to explore the employability of international students. We found that 42 firms have not had the experience of hiring the international students even though the firms include the ones considering hiring them in the future. Moreover, regardless of employment experience, many firms are reluctant to hire the international students because of their low Japanese language ability and less understanding of Japanese custom. The international students do not only acquire the language and the custom, but the firms also understand the employment systems in other countries to promote hiring of international students.
