It is essential for students of the National College of Maritime Technology to pass the written xamination for the second grade maritime officer’s COC (certificate of competency) in order to secure employment from major oceangoing shipping companies. Among subjects of the written exam, has English been regarded as a difficult one because no systematic way of preparing for the
subject has been established. For most students, common way of studying is simply translating past exam questions. This paper will present an approach using corpus analyses for improving effectiveness in learning
