Listening Ability
The introduction for English Teaching in Japan has been drastically changing since 2000. In the year of 2000, the report, ‘Japan’s Goals for 21st Century’ was published by the members of the Prime Minister’s Commission. In spite of a lot of controversial criticism, The Minister of Education and Science declared a new language policy, ‘Action Program to Cultivate Japanese with English Abilities’ in order to realize the main idea of the report. All junior and senior high school teachers of English all over Japan have to undergo a special training program, “Brush Up”. In 2006, a listening comprehension test was introduced in the Center Test, a unified entrance examination for high school graduates. In addition to these circumstances, a large number of companies require new employees to take TOEIC. A majority of examinees have trouble solving listening comprehension problems. We would like to analyze the result of English listening tests which students of this college have been taking, and we would also like to propose some ideas in order to improve listening ability.
