Listening ability is very not only basic but also important in language learning. It is pointed out, however, that we, English teachers find it very difficult to teach the way to improve learners’ listening ability. In these days a lot of technical colleges have introduced TOEIC and require their students to take some fixed minimum score as the condition for their graduation. In 2006, the listening comprehension test was introduced in the Center Test, the unified entrance examination for high school students and graduates. In addition to these situations, a large number of companies require new employees to take TOEIC and most of examinees have trouble solving listening comprehension problems in the test. In this paper we would like to analyze and compare the result of English listening and reading tests, which students of this college have been taking, and we would also like to propose some ideas in order to improve their listening ability.
