The purpose of this paper is to suggest how to describe the usage of English discourse markers in a dictionary，based on A Dictionary of Discourse Markers in English(DDME).This dictionary is edited by Matsuo，Hirose and Nishikawa and has been published by Kenkyusha in October，2015. The organization of this paper is as follows: the outline of DDME in section 2 the patterns of discourse markers in DDME in section 3.“The patterns” means the positions of discourse markers in an utterance in this case the examples of the discourse marker but in DDME in section4 some problems in describing the usage of discourse markers in section 5. Finally，I suggest how to describe the usage of discourse markers in a dictionary.
