This paper explores what forms of the discourse marker and are not expressed in or translated into Japanese. First, and clarifies structures of discourse. It has two types. One function as a signal of addition, continuing the flow of discourse. This and often introduces 'pre-established' questions and comments by speakers or writers. The other functions as a signal of change, changing the flow of discourse. This and changes modes of narration. Second, and serves to signal of the end of paragraphs or situations concerned.
