Abstract: Although Old Maid is one of the most well‑known card games in Japan, it has received little academic attention. One
reason is that the game is generally considered to allow almost no room for strategic intervention. It is widely believed that the card
drawn from another player is essentially random and that the outcome is determined solely by luck. However, through computer
simulations, this study demonstrates that significant differences in win rates arise depending on the number of players and the order
of play. Furthermore, this study proposes a new method to reduce these biases and make the game as fair as possible.
