For Japanese children, A Little Princess is recognized as a version of the Cinderella story, a tale of the tragic heroine, Sara Crewe. But the establishment of the characters is complex, and it is worth the attention of adult readers. It is true that Sara’s situation changes so drastically that she confesses she does not understand her true self. Her predicament is related to the circumstances of that time, the Victorian Age. This thesis aims to analyze the Japanese acceptance of this work, the imagery of Sara’s own making, her experience in the hierarchical organization, the world of this work and to search for the heroine’s identity.
