A questionnaire on motivation for learning English in an EFL setting was conducted with university students majoring in English. The purpose of this study was to explore what factors of motivation English majors have for language learning and how those factors influence English proficiency. It also aimed at examining whether or not there would be differences and similarities between previous studies and this study.A close observation of the items led us to claim that English majors were characteristically more motivated toward language learning compared with typical university students. As a result of correlation analysis, the factor named Intrinsic Motivation/Importance of Class had a negative correlation with Anxiety and a positive correlation with TOEIC score.
