the Choshu clan the Matsuyama Clan the Tokugawa Shogunate Oshima negotiation
In 1866 some negotiations after the war was held by the Choshu Clan and the Matsuyama Clan. In these negotiations, the Matsuyama Clan apologized to the Choshu Clan for burning and looting in Oshima because they were afraid that the Choshu Clan might attack them. The Choshu Clan made them write a document of apology and they submit it to the Choshu Clan. Actually, however, there were a number of people who were strongly against it in the Matsuyama Clan. According to 'Gessou no maki', which was a document written by one of local administrators in the Matsuyama Clan, they thought that it would mean to disobey the Tokugawa Shogunate. In the end, the Matsuyama Clan decided to obey the Tokugawa Shogunate, so that these negotiations were not successful.
