近年の人類学的調査から、古人類のカニバリズム(cannibalism、食人)の証拠が多く得られるようになり、その動機が飢餓によるものか、何らかの心理的要求が関係しているのか関心が持たれている.この問題の解決には古人類の心理的機制を理解する必要がある。そこで、先史人類学と精神分析学の共同作業に基づくヒトの心の進化を探る新たな研究手法を試みた。その結果、現生人類のカニバリズム行為者の心理には、自己の不安を防衛するために他者と自己との同一化をはかろうとする意図があること、この心理的意味が古人類においても当てはまるかどうか検討するためには、心理的防衛機制の基本的能力である見立ての能力を彼等が備えていたかどうかが焦点となることを指摘した。現在までに得られている考古学的証拠からは、十分な見立ての能力の傍証となる遺物、遺構は3万年前までのものであり、古代型サピエンスと同様、すでに約13万年前に発生していた現生人類にも、その初期には十分な見立て能力を示す証拠が伴わないことが問題となる。今後、この問題を明らかにしていくには、3万年前以前の現生人類が潜在的には持っていたであろう見立て能力を、物的証拠を残す形で開花させ得なかった理由を説明するために、生活環境全般にっいての詳しい調査が必要である。 : Increasing evidence of cannibalism in fossil hominids has raised the interest of its motivation : why did man eat man. In order to examine the issue, we attempted an interdisciplinary study between paleo-anthropology and psychoanalysis. As a result we could suggest the following : (1) in the psychology of modern cannibalism, there is an intension to assimilate with others by eating the body for their own psychological protection, (2) to examine whether the same mentality could also be applied to fossil hominids, it is necessary to investigate if they had an ability of making meta-phors which is the base of psychological self-defense system. Although the first modern Homo sapience that supposed to have the same intelligence as we do appeared in history some 130, 000 years ago, archaeological evidence of metaphors, such as ornaments, figurines, wall paintings and engravings, date only back to 30, 000 years ago. In order to further examine the problem of time discrepancy between emergence of Homo sapience and development of advanced cognitive capabilities, it is indispensable to accumulate more information about the subsistence and the environmental resources of that time period in detail.
